@dr.barrawi: ChatGPT can now help physicians review Epic charts—but there are a few major catches. Earlier this month, OpenAI announced an Epic integration that can help authorized clinicians: • Summarize complex patient records • Identify abnormal results needing follow-up • Surface medication changes and specialist recommendations • Create faster previsit clinical timelines As a family physician, I think the biggest potential benefit is turning years of fragmented records into a useful previsit summary. But this is still a chart-review assistant—not a replacement for physician judgment or your ambient scribe. Would you trust ChatGPT to summarize your patients’ charts? Save this for later and send it to a physician who needs to know what’s coming. there are other tools out there that work even better belileve it or not!

Its all fun and games until the AI misses something in the history or makes an error in reporting..

Notes today is a bunch of copied and pasted information. A lot of it is insurance billing information. Notes were much better before EPIC.

One of the problems with AI reading the chart is how terrible older notes are. Back when billing was based on number of body systems examined and number of systems in the ROS many clinic notes had auto inserted innacurate ROS and physical exams. But the AI reading the chart is likely going to assume that information is accurate.

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this. Is this going to be HIPAA compliant, like scribes are?

We’re already not liking it. I’m sure for the money we already dropped on it, we’ll keep using it.

I wonder how it will work on coding since some procedure codes are based on complexity issues and record review and time spent. Will it cut reimbursement in some way?

I am for this because I think AI should only be used behind the scenes and not in front of patients taking notes in the clinic.

It frustrates me because it runs in the side bar and I don’t need it. I am answering a simple question!

It's anAI not chatgpt. Yes Chatgpt is AI but they are different AI systems. I still hate it but epics is a technical closed AI and ChatCBT is a open AI

Great! ChatGPT got all our health data, but God forbid a spouse or a parent get access to their family health data. the HIPAA law is a joke.
