The word equinox comes from the Latin equi, meaning equal, and nox, meaning night. At this turning point of the year, we begin the descent into the darker days of winter, and the nights grow increasingly longer than the days. Libra is a cardinal sign, and all the cardinal signs initiate the beginning of a season. Libra's symbol is the scale, an instrument for weighing and measuring and signifying balance.
