@thetimes: “The council doesn’t recognise any goodwill in our well-intentioned support of the refugee programme, and we now face a personal problem of finding alternative accommodation for our son” | 🗣️ Marcus Knight What started as a generous gesture by Laura and Marcus Knight to help Syrians fleeing the war has become bureaucratic and stressful because of the Renters’ Rights Act 📸 Jason Bye for The Times #news #rent #london #syria #refugee
This has nothing to do with refugees status, it's about the recent changes in tenant rights.

So tenants who have been there nearly a decade chucked out for a couple of years of Tarquinius needing to go drama school. This is why we shouldn’t have buy to let landlords. They have taken the rent. It wasn’t given out of kindness.

I think the refugee part is irrelevant if it’s about the renters rights act

This has nothing to do with refugees specifically and everything to do with the risks of making money as a landlord. Their deal was good for them for 8 years and now they are experiencing the costs of owning a rental property.

The council will be advising them to stay until court order. Once a court order is given , they go to the top of the council housing list and are given suitable accommodation on the same day

A risk of the trade and often a problem with British tenants too. A risk you take on when you become a landlord

Love to see when a landlord discovers hoarding property isn’t a risk free investment

The advice was correct... At the time. Then labour changed the deal, the renters own the property now until they want to let you have it back.
