@cherryhealey: Sometimes a story stops me in my tracks - and I just need us to talk about it. Simon Levy was convicted of the murders of Carmenza Valencia‑Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins, after a history of sexual offending and a series of institutional failures that allowed him to remain free. He was on bail when he killed Sheryl, five months after killing Carmenza. Police, prosecutors and the courts have since admitted serious failings in how he was managed. There were red flags. There were opportunities to intervene. There were women who reported what happened to them. And two women lost their lives. The apologies that follow are not enough if women’s safety continues to be treated as an afterthought. We need action, accountability and systems that take violence against women and girls seriously before it escalates. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been doing a huge amount of research into violence against women and girls for a project I care deeply about. More on that very soon.
