@zoeszcz: My goldfish brain forced me to reread the entire ACOTAR series because apparently I retained approximately 12% of what happened the first time. 🐠 Maybe it’s because the first-read magic had worn off 🤷🏻♀️, or because this was never one of my favorite series 🤷🏻♀️, or because I was rereading out of spite 🤷🏻♀️. Whatever the reason, I noticed a LOT more this time around. Like, why do people love to hate certain characters in the Maasverse? Because at some point, Tamlin being THE WORST just became part of ACOTAR lore. But after reviewing his case, I do have some evidence I’d like to submit on behalf of the defense. 👩⚖️🦁 Nesta Archeron, however? We’ve always ridden under the banner of House Nesta. ⚔️ I will never understand the amount of hate she gets OR that A Court of Silver Flames gets. (Although, yes, there was too much smut. I can’t believe I’m saying that either.) “Traumatized and not exactly a joy to be around”? Yeahhhhh…I kinda know a thing or two about that. 🙃 I’m starting to think “complicated asshole” might just be my favorite genre of fictional character. #acotar #acotarseries #sarahjmaas #nestaarcheron #tamlin

heres the thing, i hate when people say if you dont like nesta you’ve never experienced rock bottom, ive experienced rock bottom, ive been there mentally before, but i never took it out on the people who loved me and wanted the best for me, i knew that my trauma wasnt their fault, and thats why i cant be ok with her behavior towards everyone

gonna ruffle feathers with this. i believe nesta has done more to help feyre, than feyre did to help nesta. and people are more forgiving of the men that did 10x worse as adults vs nesta just being resentful after being abused

Rhys and Feyre were so harsh on Nesta for spending money on drinking. They were going to forcibly put her back in human lands as if she killed someone, then sent her somewhere she couldn’t leave unless she walked 10k steps. Holy crap did they exaggerate

I completely agree. People are way too hard on Tamlin, Nesta’s boundaries are not respected just because she’s unlikable, Rhys and Feyre are controlling and self-centered.

Re Nesta: Cassian at one point commiserates on it taking him years to get over his trauma, and then demands she train with him like a page later. It was very frustrating.

Even his locking her up is justified. In the scene where Tamlin and Lucien were going to a dangerous area with Hybern activity, Feyre, five pages earlier, had a panic attack simply from looking at Lucien's hair. Obviously, he wasn't going to endanger the woman who had DIED IN HIS ARMS and had just returned to her death simply because she was making a fuss.

Agree with all of this wholeheartedly. To blindly hate nesta and tamlin and not question Rhys, feyre, mor, etc is wild to me. I also think it’s important to note we get almost everything at the start from feyre’s point of view and don’t know how exaggerated her opinions of tamlin and nesta are compared to what actually happened. Her perspectives could also be being manipulated by rhys’s mind control as well and we wouldn’t know

TAMLIN OFFERED TO HELP HER LEARN TO READ AND WRITE TOO! But she was like "f*ck you" and he respected that. Rhys forced her to learn lol

Not only did they say they couldn’t interfere with the Blood Rite to rescue Nesta because it was sacred and breaking the rules would get them killed, but Rhysand had previously suggested manipulating the Rite to get Kallon, an Illyrian rebel, killed. Cassian even rejected the idea because he considered it dishonoring the Rite. So you can’t tell me the rules are absolutely untouchable when you’re willing to manipulate the exact same Rite when it benefits you politically. That’s a pretty blatant double standard.

And audacity of Feyre’s fan club when I mentioned Nesta going to the wall to save her, they said “well, that’s a bare minimum”. Like, really? What Feyre actually did besides hunting 🤷🏻♀️Apparently she couldn’t cook (per ACOMAF)

I genuinely believe that Tamlin was supposed to have a larger role but the public perception of him changed that. There seemed to be so many comments about his skill on the battlefield being of benefit to Prythian to only turn into nothing. This is the High Lord closest in power to Rhys and it amounts to nothing.

Currently rereading A Court of Silver Flames and something stuck out to me….
I might be crazy butttt hear me out. So… why is Amern Rhy’s second…because she is super powerful a being from another time, ect. And what happened after the war… she turned fae and lost that power. It is even said that she can only do basic fae magic. I find it a bit funny that Feyre and Rhys could just leave Nesta alone to rot and drink. Like who cares she drinks at the bar and fucks around… she had been through a lot and she is dealing with a lot after being in the cauldron. I think the timing is very odd that they want Nesta to train. Why does she need to? What’s the point? They paint it like she needs discipline. I think Rhys is being a little sneaky sneak and knew he lost his “oh shit button” … aka Amern and train his new weapon Nesta because they know she has taken power from the cauldron and they have seen that raw power during the war. Rhys needed Nesta to be a part of the inner circle and what’s the best way to seal the deal… a mating bond with Nesta and Cassian.
👏👏👏👏 I don’t believe the mating bond is realllllll I feel like Rhys manipulated that shit with his Daemati powers. I feel like we don’t get that explosive bond that we have seen with other character and he doesn’t even accept the food she offers! NOT ONCE DOES HE TELL HER THAT HE LOVES HER IN THE BOOK. Her mate is definitely Eris and I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL

also nesta and elain were never intended to be 'characters' they were meant to be stepping stones for feyres character in acotar it wasnt until acomaf that sjm realized their arcs. as a nesta lover i would just like to say acosf is a healing journey not a redemption arc for nesta and hopefully we can see her become more redeemable in future books

Once you read it with an analytical mindset and out of Feyre’s POV, things look a lot different when the rose colored glasses are off.

I totally agree that Nesta has trauma and is allowed to process that trauma, HOWEVER, she was truly awful and stubborn to anyone and everyone who tried to help. Rhys was forcibly r***d for 50 YEARS and didn’t come back making everyone’s life a living hell. Mor was nailed and left to die while being abused by her family, and azriel was tortured his entire childhood. You don’t see any of them making there friends and families lives living hell. I think they all process and deal with trauma differently, but even Elaine who went mute and starved herself wasn’t as self destructive and cruel to everyone as Nesta was. I just will never idly understand the extent of it
