With a simple hash(key) % servers setup, going from 3 servers to 4 can remap roughly 75% of your keys, causing a huge spike in cache misses and database traffic. With consistent hashing, only a small portion of the keyspace moves to the new server, so the rest of your cache stays hot. #systemdesign #coding #programming

Wouldn't the cache servers eventually catch back up? So do the swop during quieter-ish hours and hope for the best

how well does this work in action though? from your example it looks like it only reduces the pressure on 1 or the replicas with the others unchanged. is there a process to space out the servers overtime to have them all be equal?
