@fly2hvn: Frank Ocean's younger brother, Ryan Breaux, passed away in August 2020 when he was only 18 after a car crash in Thousand Oaks, California. The loss hit Frank really hard. He has always been a very private person, but people close to him and many fans could tell that Ryan meant a lot to him. Years earlier, Ryan's voice actually appeared at the end of the song Futura Free from the album Blonde, where he casually answers questions about his life and future. His passing affected Frank so much that he shelved the album he was reportedly preparing to release in 2020. Before that, he had already dropped singles like DHL and In My Room in 2019. Around that time, he had also filmed a music video for an unreleased song with Rosalia, which later leaked online a few years ago. All of this made many fans believe a new album was coming soon. But after Ryan's death, the project was quietly put on hold and Frank stepped away from releasing music. Years later, when Frank returned to perform at the Coachella in 2023, he performed White Ferrari in a version that had never been heard before. Frank once said that while making "White Ferrari," there were about 50 different versions of the song. His younger brother, who was around 15 at the time, heard one of those versions and told him, "You gotta put that one out, that's the one." Frank didn't agree at first because he felt the song wasn't finished and it didn't give him peace yet. But at Coachella, he chose to perform that version, and many fans saw it as a quiet tribute to his brother.
