One of the greatest gifts of running a sanctuary is having the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with the souls in your care. These intimate moments create incredible bonds and build trust with animals who have endured varying levels of neglect and abuse. Others suffer from being abandoned. Those who arrive with physical injuries and neurological impairments require patience and almost round the clock care & love. Midge & Savannah were two angels who sadly required all of the patience, understanding, kindness, and love I was able to give them when they arrived. They were rescued from a location that was nothing short of a living h*ll. Fifty intact pigs were living in belly-high filth, with no access to clean water, no medical care, some locked in trailers, while others were provided with only cardboard or tarps to protect them. Midge and Savannah suffered from morbid obesity & fat blindness. Because their entire herd was intact, many suffered from deformities, including Midge. Her feet point outwards and caused pressure sores. She had never had her nails cut & that created even greater problems for her when walking. One year later, Midge & Savannah settle into a warm, dry bed every night. They have lost approximately 60 pounds each and you can now see their beautiful eyes. They love their daily meals of kale, carrots, apples, bananas, tomatoes, and grain while they continue to lose another 15-20 pounds. At that point, they will be healthy enough to be spayed. Their nails are trimmed. They are up to date on vaccines. They love belly rubs. I can’t express how much I love them both. Right now, if you have been following my posts, you know that we are dangerously close to having to close and sell Gentle Acres. The real possibility of having to find another home for Midge & Savannah keeps me up at night. I have cried more than I thought possible. If you can spare $1 or $5, please help me keep these angels in the only loving home they’ve ever known. Links are below. You can create the Christmas & Hanukkah miracle we need right now.
