The smell is from dyeing and chemically treating the leather to soften it. It's speeding up the process of wearing in your bag. The smell goes away within a few hours. I personally love this bag and I have Coach, Dooney, Chanel, YSL and Louis Vuitton bags. I bought a second one of these because I liked it so much. I think people are overly scrutinizing these bags because it's Michael Kors and everybody's been trained to look down on this brand. Just my opinion.

Thank you! The bag is gorgeous, but I could tell in all the videos that I’ve seen that I would end up being disappointed in the leather quality. 😩 oh well, my wallet is safe for another day.

My con is the leather too but also cause it’s MK I don’t think the price is relative to the quality. That bag at most should be 200 dollars not damn near 400.

Thank you for this review. I am also sensitive to smells. Unfortunately I can’t get on the Free People Emerson train because of this. Cheap feeling leather and that toxic smell is such a turn off
