Paying off the mortgage early lowers your monthly burn rate and gives you peace of mind. I did it.

I am that idiot. I work in an industry that has constant layoffs. I did not want to worry abt losing the house at the next layoff.

Even with a paid off mortgage I still have property taxes and home insurance. Plus cost of repairs/upkeep. The monthly expense didn't disappear, it just lowered 😭

I mean if you don’t pay off early & you get laid off, you still have the giant sum of money in the market to help

Paid off my 2.25% 15 year mortgage in Los Angeles 10 years early. I’d do it again every day of the week.

2.8% here. If it makes sense, at some point , I might pay it off early because being debt free is extremely powerful and liberating, especially during difficult economic times.

I got some inheritance money and used it to pay off my house that had a 2.3 interest rate. I have a pretty low risk tolerance. This allowed me to stay home with my kids for the years that I wanted to and sleep easy. I have zero regrets. Would a finance person tell me that was stupid? Probably but I IDC

Yes, and one benefit is that by having a home paid off allows us options to start a business or pursue other opportunities than can yield higher returns.

I completely understand the feeling of being mortgage free. but you’re missing the feeling I feel now after five years. I can pay off my mortgage anytime now, but I don’t and I’m getting loads of passive income. That feeling I don’t know if it’s better, but I cannot believe it. now I can still pay off my mortgage if I wanted and still have plenty left over for passive income

@whatdoyoucare 🇳🇱: Yeah, did exactly that. I just had a conversation about the purchase of a new house today. It was suggested we could close after I sold my old house. I could tell them this wasn't necessary.
