Both. Some studio stuff is what drew us in, then the flow and jam can accentuate your creativity!

I suppose it depends on how different it is. I love to sing along but if I’m not sure where you are going with it, that can be difficult.

I like the alternate versions if they're good, the original is always there if the alt is not for me.

i only hate when they don’t put any emotion into the original but go all out for the live

I love a live version that feels like a live version of the same song, like, you want to let the band do some riffing, slip in a solo, maybe splice together some tracks to hit more stops on the setlist in the time you have, double a refrain cause it's fun to jump to, extend the transition into the bridge to take a moment and hype up or connect to the crowd? Hell yeah! But some songs have iconic moments your fans are really eager to hear live and subverting that might feel tempting as a creative decision when you've been playing the same set for 10 weeks on the road but most of the audience has not been on tour with you and it's honestly worse to have a rugpull than to just not have your fave make the setlist in the first place.

its kind of hard to articulate properly but i think that newer songs should be played as they are, as fans arent always the most familiar with them enough to really sorta, appreciate or even recognise the switch up,
but for older songs that people are familiar with, i think its a nice touch when theres an "alt version" played.
its like an "oooooh this is different to normal, to what im used to", and thats really fun.

For example, nirvanas mtv unplugged. Nothing is different word wise or instrumentally really but the Kurts voice and the vibe of the song FEELS different. He sounds better live and not a lot of people do or they skip a lot of key words and it’s like, why did I come to watch you not do your best. With today’s prices, I want the most out of the experience.

I love when a live performance sounds like the recording but also I LOVE an opt up or riff or an unexpected break down

If it’s the biggest hit then I would stick close to the original source, maybe add a flair here or there. If it’s other songs do as the artists sees fit as long as it’s along a similar vibe.

Like the record. But if you did a country version, that would be cool.
