The serratus anterior might be the most overlooked muscle in your upper body - and these progressions will fix it, in order. Setup: Straight-Arm Wall Press 1. Stand an arm's length from the wall 2. Feet flat, full contact with floor 3. Hands shoulder-width apart at face level, slightly rotated outward 4. Posterior pelvic tilt - squeeze glutes, engage core (like a plank against the wall) 5. Push away from the wall as far as possible while keeping the body stiff 6. Externally rotate shoulders without moving your hands (creates torque) 7. Feel pressure on the pinky side of your palm 8. Keep shoulders down, away from ears Reps: Set 1 - hold 30 seconds. Set 2 - 10 controlled reps. Progression 1: Bent-Elbow Version 1. Same setup: core engaged, glutes squeezed, scapulae depressed, push away from wall 2. Gradually raise hands upward without letting arms rotate inward Mobility may take time to develop Progression 2: Wall Slides Once range of motion improves, move to wall slides Core tight, full protraction, controlled up-and-down hand movement Harder Variation: Plank Position Same movement patterns, but plank-based versions are more difficult (not necessarily more effective, especially without adequate core strength): 1. Scapular push-ups (plank position, hands slightly forward) 2. Elbow plank scapular push-ups 3. Extended-arm scapular push-ups 4. Dolphin presses (dynamic alternative if extended version is too hard) 5. Planche lean (advanced - requires strong core and straight arms) Fixing Imbalances If one side is weaker than the other, use single-arm variations of scapular push-ups, either against the wall or in plank position. #SerratusAnterior, #ShoulderHealth, #ScapularStability, #FitnessTips, #MobilityTraining
