@jordy.anti: Also I think most concepts of “rudeness” are based in being neurotypical and when looked at from an unbiased standpoint they’re rlly not that deep and definitely not a reason to hate somebody #jordyanti
The amount of nurses I saw be like “yeah I mean autistic children ARE very violent and it makes me tired” 💀 I think we need to have a wider concept of holding spaces so people who feel taken advantage of in healthcare can vent without it pushing ableism

I’m not gonna lie for a second I believed what the dude said, but hearing you explain it and having it being broken down to me in a different way being neurodivergent myself yeah no no he was wrong Thank you for making it make a little bit more sense in breaking it down.

also like. a lot of what gets classed as “rude” is just not following unsaid rules instead of actual impoliteness. and it’s like. well yea sometimes autistic people aren’t gonna follow social norms that’s how autism be. and that will seem rude to you sometimes. but it’s not :) because rudeness is about intent and breaching boundaries/being unkind of ungrateful :) and if u make it the autistic persons problem then yes u do in fact hate them for being autistic and u are in fact ableist!!

I feel like "rudness" is subjective moat of the time anyway. A lot of the time it just means you arent following these nonexistent subjective rules and you are going against what THEY (usually an authority figure) want you to be or say.

you are 100% correct at the end, it's learned behavior from childhood. if you get something by screaming, hitting, or being rude it reinforces that the behavior is okay and gets you what you want

Exactly! They also act like we haven’t all observed people ostracize an autistic person who wasn’t being rude just being “weird” also in the inverse there are many many rude Neurotypical people who are well liked because they operate within the norms of our able society. So the statement and itself is dumb. Also, I genuinely don’t understand how people think they’re woke and learn about ableism and neurodivergent people and instead of questioning why they dislike people who are breaking social norms in real life and maybe adjusting their judgmental behavior they are just saying people should mask more so they don’t have to acknowledge that they ostracized autistic people

also feel like many people (autistic and allistic both) not understand that some people able to learn social cues but not implement knowledge consistently. like maybe not at all, maybe only in certain circumstances. is gradient between "no understanding social cue ever" and "perfect allistic mask".

I shared that I’ve been called rude for being quiet and I had people acting like I don’t know the difference between ignoring someone who has spoken to me and simply just sitting around being quiet, which is what I was talking about.

A family member of mine is really mean spirited but I don't think that's due to the autism, I think they're just an asshole 😮💨

Yes to all of this! And to add a personal anecdote to your last point - me and my younger brother were diagnosed at basically the same time. He got away with anything and everything due to his autism. Meanwhile I got punished for showing any of the more "bad" parts of my autism and was expected to put up with his sometimes downright horrific behavior because "you're older and know better"

half the stuff they think about autistic people being rude is the fact they commonly don’t have full control/knowledge over their tone and obviously not knowing social cues. like okay yes a lot of that can come off as rude but guess who’s responsibility it is to do something about it? the non autistic person, because literally all these situations the autistic person has no awareness of them being rude at all. IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TELL SOMEONE THEY CAME OFF AS RUDE AND UNDERSTAND THAT THEY LITERALLY CANNOT HELP IT?? sorry im genuinely so done with people saying “it’s your tone” then saying “you can fix it!” like no. no i cannot not? because i literally cannot hear myself talking in a rude tone or face expressions, i can’t see myself out of my body how do you expect me to change something when i have no idea when it happens 😭 like just let me know so i can apologize and elaborate that’s it. my bad for breaking social rule 36 i wasn’t given that book

heavy on all of this. I also think most of the conversation ive seen misses that masking is also not healthy for autistic people to be doing 24/7. and most arent directly using the word masking but thats exactly what it sounds like they want.

World's Worst Heart Patient :
Yeah I realized that all of my serious friendships and relationships have fallen into a few categories:
1. Communal Punching Bag - Basically these "friends" keep me around and wait for me to do something autistic. Then they use it to make fun of me. This was pretty much high school for me, and of course they never let anything go. Because they really didn't like me, I was never invited to anything. Like we'd hang out at school, but rarely after class. The fun stuff that they would do outside of school would not involve me.
2. Zoo Exhibit - This is where people observe me in awe of my autism. Not in a meaningful way, but a belittling way. They don't actually want to try to get to know me or understand why I do things, they just want to watch me for their own entertainment.
3. The Charity Friendship - This is where people include me in their group but don't actually interact with me. Half the time they want me to be around them because they think I make them look better by comparison. Either that or they'll infantilize me and try to help me despite the fact that I'm a grown fucking man and honestly probably smarter than them.
