If you show up with iced coffee in hand, that tells me you planned well enough for a stop and still showed up on time. It also shows me you care enough to be alert and prepared for the interview going a longer time. ~a xennial who has interviewed hundreds of people over a decade and half.

Interviewer here 🙋♀️if you show up early/on-time with a iced coffee or any drink, they tells me you planned well enough to be able to stop and get it. There isn’t any issues with bringing a drink, if you are on time. If you are late, and show up with a fresh iced drink, then that speaks otherwise.

push back, change the rules but if you're not the one doing the hiring you need to follow their rules first so you can make the change. For me it was wearing jeans on Fridays long before casual Friday was even a hint of an idea. Woman in the office called me difficult, immature and bosses pet because I got away with it. When I interviewed I wore the perfect gosh she's so sweet suit. I was 17 and just begun a very long history of making changes.

I’m a neurodivergent elder millennial, and I’ve always HATED the “that’s just how things are done” ideology. I don’t think I’d bring an iced coffee to an interview, but I also don’t think I’d blink at someone else doing it. I generally always have at least one comfort beverage with me.

As a millennial who has hired/ interviewed, I didn’t care about the coffee/drink. I do care about how you’re dressed. Not dress clothes per-say; your clothes should be mended/best you can do, not stink or have fresh dirt

I feel a dimension to this discussion is being overlooked, specifically by the ppl who have leverage in the hiring process. I’d welcome that iced coffee— in fact, if I were a hiring manager, I’d comment on it first thing, sorta like an icebreaker (pun intended). I’d probably judge your order more so than its presence

It’s the same as the old “you can’t wear hats in class” thing. It’s just about power and control. My parents used to tell me to take my hat off at the dinner table and I finally asked why they thought it was disrespectful. They couldn’t give me a coherent answer and got mad. By now you know my parents are boomers but they no longer care about hats at the dinner table.

Millennial manager here. At an interview, if you need to bring coffee to an interview then you can’t handle high pressure environments because you need a kick to just show up.

My incredibly radical idea is that I would not even bat an eye on what they have to drink and rather focus on asking questions regarding the job itself, challenges I encounter and have encountered, and potential issues that might arise.
