I wish someone told me about the wave of sadness I would feel when leaving a place that feels like home. It’s a feeling of emptiness that no one can prepare you for. When the peace you feel in Madinah and the grind of ibadah in Makkah is ripped away when you have to leave, the feeling inside is so hollow. But if you’re prepared for this, you can do what you can to avoid it. Here’s how ↓ Make the most of your time there: while it sounds simple, it can be easy to get swept up into spending lots of time shopping or being distracted. Of course, spend some time to shop but maximise your time in ibadah in the Masjids, visiting the landmarks and retracing the steps of the Prophet ﷺ Let go of your sleep schedule and routine: the reality is your sleep and eating schedule will go out of the window. Embrace this and use dhikr instead as fuel for your energy (of course ensuring that you are looking after your body as best as possible). Learn exactly how to perform Umrah: to avoid the initial few days of confusion and overwhelm and instead maximize your time from the minute you arrive, learn exactly how to perform Umrah and what to do in Madinah. Or take some step by step flashcards with you. Comment “umrah” for our umrah guide and flashcards for exactly this. Remind yourself that Allah is with you wherever you are: whether you’re in the sacred lands of Makkah or Madinah, the quiet of your bedroom, or bustle of your home town- Allah is always with you. Make the intention to take back with you the habits you pick up there and ask Allah to keep the connection with Him firm in your heart. May Allah accept your Umrah and make it a trigger for greater barakah and change in your life❤️
