JAŸ-Z’s “Intro (The Dynasty)” from his 2000 ‘Roc La Familia’ album is one of the most beloved songs in his catalog. For over 25 years fans have pored over the lyrics and meaning, but Hov just revealed a Notorious B.I.G. reference, that even his most diehard fans may be surprised to learn. Speaking to Rick Rubin for the newly released ‘JAŸ-Z in 8’ docuseries on HBO, Hov explained the story behind the line: “Only Psalms I read was on the arms of my n----s / Tattooed, so I carry on like I'm non-religious.” “This was a reference to Biggie, D-Roc, and Lil Cease, they all had the same Psalm scripture on their arm,” JAŸ-Z told Rick Rubin in an episode that launched on September 18. If you didn’t know that Biggie was tatted, it’s because he got his first ink just days before he died on March 9, 1997. According to the L.A. Times and famed writer Cheo Hodari Coker, BIG inked an excerpt from Psalm 27 on his inner forearm. It read: “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the truth of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even my enemies and foes, came upon me to bite my flesh, they stumbled and fell...” Coker interviewed BIG in L.A. before he was tragically murdered, and published the piece the day after he passed away. In the Times piece Biggie explained the meaning behind the tat. “This is to reassure myself that whatever goes wrong, no matter how bad things seem, God is right there for you, you know,” he said. “What I’m doing now is right.
