dude in one of my college film history classes called this movie "lazy" because the camera was shaky. he said scorcese does it seemlessly so why cant they. then went on to say they obviously didn't have real work ethic or skill because they are communist.

Was there a specific time in motion picture history that was marked by a sort of “hey, we should not do shots that wouldn’t be the experience of the viewer” to “let’s let the viewer be able to fly” in order to experience the scene? I have never considered that this may have been so.
