At the same time, it helps to look at the intent behind the show. The creators have always stated that The Chosen is a historical drama based on scripture, not a word-for-word replacement for it. The Bible gives us the absolute truth and the core events, but it doesn't give us the full transcript of every conversation Jesus had, nor does it detail every moment of the apostles' personal lives.
When the show adds storylines—like Peter and Eden losing a child, or Small James not being physically healed—it isn't trying to rewrite biblical facts. Instead, it uses these plausible scenarios to address the very real, timeless theological questions that believers face every day, like "Why does God allow suffering?" or "Why does God heal some people and not others?" Through Small James, the show explores how God can be glorified through our weaknesses, which beautifully reflects Paul’s message in 2 Corinthians.
Similarly, while Rama is a fictional character, her storyline gives Thomas a tangible journey of grief. It helps viewers understand the profound emotional cost of discipleship and how hard it was for ordinary humans to follow Jesus when their personal expectations weren't met-
