I worked at a hospital once and had a Russian patient. My first instinct was to say “howdy” when I walked into the room. While setting up the translator tablet, the patient would not stop laughing at me. When the translator finally popped up on the screen, I ✨insecurely✨ asked why the patient was laughing. The translator told me the patient thought the phrase “howdy” was something made up for old western movies. It made the patient’s day when I said it because it was her first time hearing it in America.
