Hals fucked that ring up so many times it's no longer a reliable ring for a new lantern, he's forced the ring to do things it wasn't designed to do and left more knowledge in the ring than he probably remembers. It's simply a dangerous ring to have out in the universe and the only person they trusted to have the ring was a person the guardians groomed since infancy

I’m guessing they decommissioned the ring because they fear Hal, and since the ring stores a backup of his consciousness, the Halogram, they don’t want the Lantern who comes after him to know what he knows or be influenced to be like him And I’m guessing the reason they were fine with John having the ring is because they thought they could get John to distrust Hal, and therefore the Halogram. As he was described as the opposite of Hal his entire life, competent, obedient, etc, you wouldn’t really trust someone described as incompetent, disobedient, oath breaker etc

I’m assuming it’s because they didn’t have any one else in mind like they did John. Hal didn’t die, so the ring didn’t search for someone new since it had a host. So a new ring was forged so it would seek someone

Hal’s ring is an old model. I’m thinking the guardians uses gold metal to somehow limit the power ring. Not wanting the lanterns to get too strong. Then made a new design with limiters

I think part of the reason guy got a new ring is because of how long Hal had the ring he must've scratched and scruffes the shit out of that ring especially when he activates sentry mode

Nah, it's probably because of the Halogram and what else Hal might've programmed it to do. They don't want a fresh Lantern recruit getting immediately hit by the Halogram listing off all the reasons the Guardians suck and shouldn't be obeyed.

It seems obvious to me that Hal and John didn't die by the end of the fifth episode, so the Guardians simply took the ring back. Then, they either manually chose Gardner or sent a new ring to Earth to make the choice itself.
