@wrightnewstt: Are we moving forward, or are we stepping back into the Ticket to Leave system of 1845? The UNC’s recent proposal for "closed communities" and strict curfews—requiring residents to get a permit just to enter or leave their own neighborhoods—sounds dangerously familiar. For anyone who knows our history, this isn’t a modern security strategy. It is a modern reincarnation of the colonial "Ticket to Leave" system.Under British colonial rule, indentured labourers in Trinidad and Tobago were legally confined to their assigned estates. If they wanted to step outside those boundaries for any reason, they were forced to carry a written pass—a Ticket to Leave. If they were caught without it? Arrest, criminal prosecution, and imprisonment. Fast forward to 2026, and we are being told that restriction of movement, heavy surveillance, and "passes to exit your community" are the solutions to our problems. Freedom of movement is a fundamental constitutional right, not a privilege to be rationed out by a permit system. We cannot secure our future by borrowing the chains of our past. Is this safety, or is this a return to the plantation playbook? -Suzette Louwe

Rubbish and the system was left by the colonial master why pnm never changed it ?? all this slave talk and yet the slaves chose to remain at the bottom while they took directive from a pnm led master?? and while they built others and left the slaves to pick up crumbs they left, the indentures have worked hard and built their legacy and their children under the system all of us so now the prat and morgan cant defend or has it failed or should we start all over with constitutional reform,no wonder we atre a laughing stock a failed state.

Kamla take win on your reverse phycology. They was against it first until you say this now they want it. We will never want it we stand our ground. The only way to fix crime in our country is to fix the TTPS first. They know who the criminals are but refused to deal with them because they themselves are criminals. Making the entire country suffer because of this, is evil. Dont worry nothing last forever.
