Ben :
what's even creepier is the "Dancing Plague" of 1518 in Strasbourg, modern day France. Scientists still can't explain it. The most commonly believed theory is that it was a case of mass hysteria. But how would mass hysteria explain literally committing to dancing, non-stop, until literally getting heart attacks and passing out, dancing to death. In my opinion, there was something unnatural that took place. Like what even is "mass hysteria"? Sure, there's a mechanism for social diseases for beliefs and behaviors to spread between people, similar to cultural transmission, except the ideas or behaviors are self-harming or suicidal. But that doesn't explain why the first person to invent it would ever do it, or why a bunch of other people would pick it up and do it too. If it was a social disease spread by high charisma and conviction of one insane mentally ill person, the other people that got influenced and started dancing too, must've been influenced by something else unnaturally, and continually influenced and controlled, to keep dancing past the point of exhaustion, past the limitations of their own hearts and bodies. Like they believed they were stopping an impending doom, or maybe they believed they were summoning Satan or some crazy shit. We don't understand the context or anything that can explain it. Scientists try to point to how dancing is often used for spiritual worship, and that it releases dopamine and creates a cycle of rewards that feed onto themselves to keep you going. Similar to how some ancient tribes would dance around a fire for many hours throughout an entire night, as a dedication to the gods, like the Mayan fire dance. But, what if, there was an actual alien presence they called God or Demons or Satan, and it was what hijacked their bodies and minds, to make them do this thing? Or maybe everyone accidentally consumed an extremely high dosage of psychedelic substances such as psilocybin mushrooms, that all the soup people ate that week had the mushrooms in it? And that's how it triggered the dancing. Maybe they felt synchronized to the frequency of the universe, and it was the physical expression of that mental state. Crazy stuff
