Someone built a plugin that makes Claude Code code like the laziest senior engineer in the room, and his numbers say the same task went from 3,629 lines to 490. Ponytail is a free plugin for Claude Code, Codex, and Copilot CLI, and it works with about 20 agents through a rules file. Before your agent writes code it climbs a ladder: does this need to exist, is it already in the codebase, does the standard library do it, does the browser do it natively, is there an installed dependency, can it be one line. Only then does it write new code, and only the minimum. Ask for a date picker and a normal agent installs flatpickr, writes a wrapper component, adds a stylesheet, and starts a discussion about timezones. Ponytail writes input type equals date. Security, accessibility, validation, and data-loss handling are hard-coded as never-skip, and it reads the code the change touches before it picks a rung. The author's benchmark on 12 real feature tickets: 54 percent less code, 22 percent fewer tokens, 20 percent cheaper, 27 percent faster. 121,000 GitHub stars as of Sep 2, MIT. The catch: that benchmark ran on Haiku 4.5, and on tiny files newer models already write minimal code, so the win shows up on real, dependency-heavy repos. #claude #claudecode #github #aitools
