Just look at the most recent Spider-Man. We are excited to believe that a kid with apparently no job can afford that kind of apartment in NYC? No, I love the Spider-Man franchise but there is no way he could be as active in crime fighting AND earn a living wage. It just breaks the believability bank right out the gate

The Simpsons’ premise of a barely-high school graduated husband could afford a suburban home with 3 kids on a factory salary. It started in normalcy in the late 80s, and gradually became one of the more implausible aspects of the show in the past couple decades

I've stopped reading so many books which are predicated on the characters doing things that they would absolutely get caught doing today, due to ubiquitous and constant SURVEILLANCE. Like, all these stories are obsolete.
