yeah I hate that too. my bfs company is like that there was multiple times he (without +1) was invited to weddings of people he doesn't even really know just because they were team lead and wanted a money gift. which also means he needed new shoes and a suit so it cost like half a month of minimum wage in our country. and the kicker that the team lead next month made the announcement that he is leaving the company so they again needed to put money together to buy him a fancy watch.

No NTA, you’re not obligated whatsoever to “chip in” for any coworker birthday if you don’t want to. They’re not entitled to your money just because they want to do a group present/card. YTA for signing the card, you shouldn’t have signed the card that you didn’t help chip in for.

I mean we do that too at work, but it's something everyone agreed to as they started with us. Also if you don't want to it's okay but you don't get a gift at your birthday either. and the amount is small and the same every time like everyone gives 2,5€ everytime and we only have like 12 people in the company

When I worked in UK this used to be a thing but in Germany colleagues have a collection if someone is leaving their job - I prefer the German way.

I suppose it's a do it as in give money (like £1 well that's contribution technically as I'm being facetious [Tears of joy]) because that's a collective thing or it's a helllll to the no no no because you don't want to be 2 faced and as she said reward peeps for those that pisssss you and Co workers off. And she is in charge of a section and if he's being a a to the sshole then I don't think I could pitch in either but that's just me [Vergüenza]

Why would we use our private money for the employer to give a gift to another employee as to make the employer seem like a nice employer / company? Usually the gifts are useless too, like gift cards to places the employee doesn’t even shop at let’s just collectively stop contributing to this nonsense
