Heavy emphasis on the size of the dog is generally more expensive! Just as an example, My golden retriever’s flea/tick & heartworm prevention is almost $700 annually while my parents who have a daschund spend closer to $350. And like, you have to give this to them 😅

Also, if you are adopting a young dog who doesn’t have a super large personality yet where you can tell what they enjoy yet, make sure you can find ways to fulfill them even if it’s not what you may currently fit your life style. Eg. My dog LOVES to wrestle/rough house, so I take him to my grandparents house where they have a young adult dog who enjoys rough housing with him. He enjoys long sniffy walks over city walks, so he has forced me to find walking paths I can take him to. These are things I never did before, but he has given me a reason to.
