@fly2hvn: “Hotel Lobby” arrived on May 20, 2022, as the first release from Quavo and Takeoff under the name Unc & Phew. The track came during a complicated period for Migos, with Offset absent from the record and speculation growing around the group’s future. Instead of sounding like a stripped-down version of Migos, Quavo and Takeoff leaned into the chemistry that had always made their music work, trading confident flows over production from Murda Beatz, Keanu Beats, and Fabio Aguilar. (The Fader) The song’s atmosphere was matched by its video, which was co-directed by Quavo and Keemotion and heavily inspired by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Quavo and Takeoff appear as exaggerated, psychedelic versions of the film’s characters, driving through the desert before arriving at a Las Vegas hotel. The strange visuals, chaotic energy, and cinematic style gave the song an identity beyond a typical rap video. (Prelude Press) “Hotel Lobby” eventually became the opening statement for their joint album Only Built for Infinity Links, released later that year. It also received a stripped-down COLORS performance in June 2022, putting the focus almost entirely on the two rappers and their delivery. (Shazam) In hindsight, the song carries an added weight. It captured Quavo and Takeoff working together as a duo at a moment when the future of Migos was uncertain, making “Hotel Lobby” one of the defining records of their final era together. #offset #gunna #takeoff #hoteloby #colors
