As a hiring manager, I’ve reviewed hundreds of resumes, and I can tell you this: you’re probably not the only candidate who meets the qualifications. Once you meet the basic requirements, I’m evaluating how you present yourself, your attitude, your communication, and whether you’re a good culture fit for the team. Because I’m conducting the interview, within the first 15 minutes, I’m already getting a sense of who you are and how you’ll fit with the team. If your biggest priority during that time is making sure you get your iced latte, that tells me something. Your priority should be showing up prepared, engaged, professional, and focused on presenting your best self. The coffee can wait. The impression you make can’t.

As someone who deals with hiring on a day to day basis, I’ve never struggled for talent. There is abundance of talent in the market. So this detail that you see as minor (but you’ve been told by multiple people it comes across as entitled and too relaxed in a corporate setting) could be the deciding factor between you and several other equally qualified and capable candidates. You’re never going to be the only option. Water is absolutely fine, if they offer you a coffee and you don’t think you could possibly get through the interview without caffeine, then accept, but bringing outside beverages to slurp through a straw whilst interviewing, is never going to be a wise choice.

Here's one simple take .... I'm down to my final 2. They are equal on every level, skill set, personality, nothing to set them apart. So now I have to nit pick to decide. One appeared more professional, one was very casual sitting across from me with their coffee. The mistake is you believing you're the most qualified because you did what was expected by showing up 15 minutes early. And you didn't bring me a coffee 🤷♀️

These are the same corporate people that literally hire people to go get them coffee. Only difference is I went and got my own. Entrepreneurship was always my Destiny cause no way you disqualify me from a job off of having an iced coffee.

Babe I’m a nurse, we quite literally live on iced coffee, and never in my 8 years of doing many interviews across many specialties have I thought about bringing a drink to an interview. We are not sipping on coffee in the middle of an interview! This isn’t a coffee date we’re talking about, it’s an interview. Bring the iced coffee to work when you get the job….
