@rachaeltrimboli: Nobody ever taught us to think about where we keep our money. Just that we should save it. But where your money sits matters just as much as how much you save. I started going through every place we keep money and asking one simple question: is this actually earning me anything right now? Checking account👉probably not. Venmo or PayPal balance 👉definitely not. Regular savings account 👉barely. And once I saw it clearly I made some really simple changes. Our income now goes directly into our high yield savings account instead of checking. I transfer just what I need for bills and everyday spending. And I use credit cards for most of our purchases throughout the month and pay them off in full from the HYSA. So instead of keeping thousands of extra dollars sitting in checking doing nothing, that money is earning interest every single day until the moment I actually need to spend it. And this is not about having a lot of money. Even if you get paid $2,000 or $3,000 at a time, if that money is going to sit somewhere for a week or two before you spend it why not let it earn something while it waits.
