A security guard outside the residence of Britain’s ambassador to Moscow has been arrested over an alleged plot to attack the diplomat, Russia said, in a claim that is likely to be treated with scepticism in London. The Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had seized a 45-year-old security guard working as a Ukrainian agent. It claimed the man had helped plan a false flag “terrorist attack” for which the Kremlin would be blamed to draw Britain into direct armed conflict with Russia. The man, a Russian citizen named only as Marat by Russian media, was alleged to have monitored the movements of the ambassador, Nigel Casey, and other British diplomats. He was said to be acting under the guidance of a Ukrainian blogger who was passing information to Ukraine’s security service, the SBU. Pro-Kremlin Russian media said an official representative of MI6 had been called in to the FSB to be presented with evidence of the man’s surveillance.
