I used to pour my heart and literal soul into doing these things for him for special occasions or not and would be so proud while I spent hours making something bcz I loved so much and his reason for breaking up with me is that “I take and take and never give” when his perception of me not giving was just in terms of money spent and not paying for more dates😬 he’d ask me things like “can you pay for dinner this time bcz I’ve paid the last few” or “do you want to plan the next date because I’m tight on money” and on holidays or birthdays would subtly point out who did more. To me, if you chose to buy me a $200 bracelet for Christmas that should be smth you wanted to do out of love and not expectation for more in return
