Years later he led a rebellion that took the capital, Chang'an, in 880 and crowned himself emperor. The poem ends by saying the whole city will be dressed in golden armor. Source: Huang Chao, "Chrysanthemum, Written After Failing the Exam" 疾风知劲草，板荡识诚臣 Li Shimin took the throne by killing two of his brothers at the Xuanwu Gate. He wrote this couplet for Xiao Yu, a minister who stayed loyal when it counted. Li Shimin knew from experience how few people would. He was murdered by a local official during the An Lushan rebellion. Later he backed the wrong prince in a civil war and was exiled for it, and he was pardoned on the way. He was right about the talent.
