How did we know to multiply by the conjugate in the first place? Just intuition / practice? Had to use a similar algebraic trick (just adding and subtracting a function to RHS of eqn) to help with a Laplace transform in my controls course today, and feels like I’ve always struggled with thinking of these “outside of the box” type manipulations to make

I remember we made a poster of what one of my friends said in AP Calc when we first got into derivatives. “The limit definition of the derivative is like making a mountain out of a mole hill” and that’s what crossed my mind watching this 😂
