@sydneyotero: The clip chart critics are typing… meanwhile, my first graders are thriving ✨ sometimes old school just works! I mostly use my clip chart for positive reinforcement! Do you use a clip chart in your classroom? Thoughts? Opinions? ✏️ #classroommanagementtips #classroommanagement #behaviormanagement #teacher
I can’t believe teachers are still using these, so many more positive/appropriate ways to manage a class 😕

I use a consequence ladder which I feel is similar to this but non student facing. I have a lanyard with my students names on it and I mark their consequences with a whiteboard marker and erase it daily. They know what consequence they’re on (and honestly so does the rest of the class lol). I used to think clip charts were horrible as a baby teacher but consequences have to be enforced along with positive recognition. I finally came to my senses haha

i used a rainbow one but the kids never clip down. they just clip up and up until they get to the top, then they get a prize and then they start back at the bottom so no one ever knows who’s doing ‘better’ or ‘worse’. now i just use dojo points!

I would do this but I think I would assign each student a symbol rather than their name. They can choose to keep their symbol a secret or share it. That way kids don't feel shamed or embarrassed if they're struggling with regulation, trauma, whatever the issue is that could be an explanation (not an excuse) for behaviours. But still effective enough to serve as a visual representation of the expectation and where they are sitting on the scale

I love my clip chart and I’ve used it for years . It’s not a shaming tool at all. Clipping down is a consequence of not following directions. I know some people these days think kids should not have consequences and it’s ridiculous. I feel like clip charts mimic real life…if you make a sad choice and you have to move down, they can fix it and move back up. Just like real life! I’m so tired of people acting like clip charts are awful . I love how you mentioned giving the kids that are making good choices deserve prizes. Yes! The kids that are acting right deserve all kinds of prizes! Sometimes I feel like the kids that get in trouble earn more rewards in school than the kids that come to school ready to learn and it’s not right . Anyway I think you are doing a great job!! ❤️
