Terminal lucidity. I remember telling my father that I’ll be visiting him at the hospital tomorrow and told him to focus on himself and rest. With tubes on his right hand, he tried his best to lift it, hold my hands and smile. Didn’t know that was my last interaction with him. He passed away the next day. Thought he was just getting comfortable after being restless during the day.

This is actually a paramount result of what some call it a toxic culture where children is forced to take care of their parents when they are old because they were guilt-tripped to do so and now they pay the price of being caged in it - having no more future to face because they spent their lives doing 'that'. Many parents never realize this in asian household as they have used their sons and daughters as a 'retirement plan', but in *very* rare cases these slides do appear... If only the latter could be true for everyone...
