September 17, 2026 | Natural Disaster Summary Northern & North-Central Vietnam | Vietnam - Prolonged heavy rainfall continued to trigger widespread flooding and landslides, with some areas receiving more than 500 mm of rain between September 13 and 17. As of the morning of September 17, 2,291 homes were flooded, another 24 were damaged or destroyed, and 732 families, totaling 2,975 people, had been evacuated from high-risk areas. Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Phu Tho, and Hanoi were among the hardest-hit areas. In Thanh Hoa, rising rivers inundated residential communities and approximately 15 km of roads, while landslides affected mountainous areas. Valencia, Murcia & Other Regions | Spain - Torrential rainfall and thunderstorms affected a large part of Spain, from Catalonia and Valencia to Murcia and Andalusia. Torrent received approximately 96 mm of rain, including 71 mm within just 30 minutes, while similarly extreme totals were recorded in Chiva, L'Eliana, Alboraya, and Valencia. Streets and buildings flooded, rescue operations were carried out, and train and metro services were disrupted. Valencia Airport temporarily closed, while more than 60–70 mm of rain fell within one hour in parts of Cartagena, where floodwaters moved vehicles. Thirteen municipalities in Valencia and Alicante provinces suspended classes. Northeastern Indiana | USA - Heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across Adams, Huntington, and Wells counties, with impacts extending into neighboring Van Wert County, Ohio. Bluffton was particularly hard hit, where streets, residential areas, and Kehoe Park flooded as the Wabash River rapidly rose from around 7 feet to 14 feet, with further increases expected. Homes and basements were inundated in Huntington County, while emergency crews distributed sandbags. Several school districts cancelled in-person classes and switched to remote learning because of the flooding.
