We will end up paying more for skilled trade than other professionals…and they have every right to charge. There are so few tradies in my region due to the fossil fuel industry that we barely question what the tradies charge out of sheer gratitude to them for fitting us in.

100% agree, people who study and can apply themselves can usually figure the not so hard stuff out like putting up a fence pretty easily. Thanks champ!

Some people find physical labour mundane and not intellectually stimulating enough! They also don’t mesh well with the typical social level that is typical within the trade world. It’s not always about the money.

As a senior banker I can’t really tell if banking is going to be lucrative 30 years from now. My children will pick their own careers. Let’s hope they don’t get too attached to the first class international flights and luxury hotel holidays 😂

why does fencing cost so much. legit question. cos honestly its the most lucrative job possible. I needed 31m of simple 2 rail, copper log, 1.5m pine panel fence built. matching the rest of the fence and entire neighbourhood. 3 posts need to be attached to preexisting cement. the rest are simply bolted to already set perfectly square and straight brackets (brackets even have adjustment points built in just in case) built onto a brand new steel and concrete retaining wall. Nothing hard, Nothing fancy, a straight line. 1 company who quoted me even said it was the easiest job they'd seen in years. Under $2.2k in material AT RETAIL price, including a new coil nail gun, every washer, bolt, nail, wood treatment, absolutely every part. all hardware used was verified by multiple people to be the right stuff, all delivered or bought in store for under 2.2k. i got 8 quotes all supplying the same materials. and I was quoted between 6.9k and 16.2k. for the exact same job. probably 1 days work for 2 guys. maybe 2 days if they were bad at their job. 4 - 14k in labour for 31m of fence. 4k for 2 blokes is $250 per hour each for a days work. the "easiest job ever" guys came in at 10k. I did the whole thing in 3 days, on my own, 6 hours a day max to avoid the sun, never built a fence before. shes dead straight, sitting pretty, the money saved was used to build some nice custom gates, with some nice hardware, and I still came in under 4k. theres another 4 or 5 panels to the left of this photo. but seriously... for basic pine fencing.... $250 - $875 per hour for 2 people... get over ya selves.

It works both ways, bro. You need us as much as we MAY need you. “I shouldn’t be saying this, but, if you ever get a chance to go to trade school to learn a skill, definitely do it. That way, when you fall ill or need an attorney, it won’t be too expensive.”
