The President’s official portrait in a Government office is not merely a decoration; its display is a legal requirement. Under Standing Order Q.21(1) of the Standing Orders for the Public Service, 2009, Government Notice No. 493 of 2009, made under the Public Service Act, Cap. 298, the official portrait of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania is required to be displayed on the wall above the public servant’s desk in all Government offices. Further, Standing Order Q.21(2) requires the portrait of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, the First President and Father of the Nation, to be displayed in all Government offices in such a manner that it faces the portrait of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Therefore, the portraits are not placed merely for aesthetics. Their display and positioning in Government offices are specifically prescribed by the Standing Orders. // Picha rasmi ya Rais katika ofisi za Serikali si mapambo tu; uwekaji wake ni takwa la kisheria.
