The original dub is also funnier. When Mei finds the broken bucket she says “stupid bucket” but the Disney one she says “Theres a hole in this bucket” also don’t get me started on the cover. They mashed the two girls into a new character. WHY?!?!?

I did a full 5000 word assignment at university looking at the use of silence in the Japanese studio ghibli movies vs the English dubs. Japanese has a lot more silent moments as it’s something that is part of their culture and language. There’s purposeful meaning in the silent moments. For English, too many silent moments makes us feel awkward, so they added a lot more filler lines and noises in, especially in the earlier movies. So I’d say that explains why the dvd has more dialogue vs the Netflix one.
