The CEO of the firm is saying that corporate life isn't fair, and, as a result, he has risen to the role of CEO. What a paradox - basically admitting that that's how he has succeeded - even explicitly says "there will be someone smarter than you who is earning less" and wears it like a badge. I've worked with people like this. I call them toxic. And, my secret to happiness is not too adopt his ideology, but to avoid people like this. And it is much a more satisfying and rewarding feeling, and lasts a lot longer.

Having worked in top tier law firms for many years burn out for high achievers is rampant. You need to learn not to succumb to excessive praise and workload out of your own ego. Unfortunately high achieving does not mean a great result. Sometimes the grifters win.
