So you wanted to learn refrigeration! 🤨 But, you can’t remember how these defrost time clocks work. Let’s keep it simple: 1 and 2 = L1 line voltage N = Neutral or L2 line voltage 3 = Defrost (NO contact) 4 = Evap fans (NC contact) X = Defrost termination Save this video to come back to and look at the wiring diagram to follow along for better understanding. Basically the time clock should always be active as long as you have line voltage to terminal 1 and N. Ensure voltage is correct for what you need. Center knob is used to adjust time. The little pin is used to set maximum defrost time. Pins are inserted to activate defrost at specific times. Usually every 8h but can vary based on application. Terminal 4 are your evap fans that run during normal operation. Terminal 3 are your defrost heaters or the defrost contactor, depending on your setup. X is an evap coil temp sensor that will close contact when a certain temperature is reached. Or a pressure switch that will close above a certain pressure. This will cut out defrost before the max defrost time is reached. This is a common layout but always double check to ensure this is how your cooler or freezer defrost is setup. If you have questions, take a step back, reassess, and/or ask before proceeding. If you’re new to HVAC or service and eager to learn, share your knowledge, and collaborate in a supportive environment, join the HVAC Game Skool Community.
