Your elbow is like your knee. It can only open and close. That's it. 👉 It cannot rotate in any other direction. Which means if it's in the wrong position before your catch starts, it's physically impossible to do a high elbow catch. No matter how hard you try. 🔴 Here's what a dropped elbow actually does. When your elbow points to the side or downward, your whole arm pulls the water instead of just your hand and forearm. And when your whole arm pulls, the water slips straight through. No grip. No propulsion. Just wasted effort. 👉 Here's what needs to happen instead. 1️⃣ As you glide, move your hand just slightly outside your shoulder width. ✅ This small adjustment makes it much easier to rotate your shoulder inward and get your elbow into the right position. 2️⃣ Before you start your catch, your elbow has to point up toward the sky. ✅ Not to the side. Not downward. Straight up. 🔵 From that position, only your hand and forearm are in contact with the water. And that's exactly where all your propulsion comes from. 3️⃣ Only then start your catch. 👉 Elbow up first. Then pull. In that order. Every single stroke. 🔴 Most swimmers start pulling before their elbow is in the right position. And by the time they pull, the catch is already lost. 🎯 If you want to see exactly what your elbow position looks like and how it's affecting your catch, film yourself on your phone and send it inside the Swim Success Training app. I'll personally review it and tell you exactly what to fix first.
