F-droid sounds cool, I haven't heard of anything open source since I was in the Game Modding community.

None of my machines are powerful enough to use qubes. but I like the concept. I use Debian with openbox, apparmor, usbguard, various others, encrypted root volume, encrypted home volume.... i do what I can. I also tend to run tailscale with a cloud based dns that uses a blocklist for ads and malware, plus it uses quad9 as a downstream dns that it connect to using DoT. the DNS machine is also acting as an exit node that proxies all my data out over nord. I am thinking of other ways to harden, but being limited on the equipment I use I can only do so much.

GrapheneOS is great, but thinking a 'duress pin' is going to stop a determined adversary from beating the real passcode out of you is naive. Qubes OS is a fantastic piece of engineering, but good luck getting any average user to actually run their daily life through isolated virtual machines without losing their minds. Tor is essential for many, but letterboxing your window isn't going to save you if your operational security is flawed from the start, plus the speed makes you insane, Organic Maps is nice, but if you are carrying a device that connects to cellular networks, you're already tracked. It's fascinating how much effort goes into treating the symptoms of an inherently insecure ecosystem with extreme, user-hostile tools, while ignoring that the most critical vulnerabilities are almost always human error or basic OPSEC failures. Makes us all feel like we're in the matrix, though.
