One of the reasons I love seeing athletes from different sports compete is that you get to see different movement signatures and how athletes accomplish similar tasks in very different ways. It’s not always about right and wrong. Athletes adapt to their sport, their structure and their training history. But at the highest level, track athletes are masters of sprinting. Their movements are incredibly refined, with very little wasted motion. Tebogo is running below his max here and still wins comfortably. His speed ceiling is simply much higher. And this is where speed reserve becomes so important for team sport athletes. If one athlete can operate at 75% of their maximum while another needs 90% to achieve the same speed, those demands are very different. Over the course of a game, repeatedly operating closer to your ceiling can accelerate fatigue and compromise your ability to reproduce high speed efforts. This is why we train speed, even in sports where athletes rarely reach their maximum velocity. If you want to become a faster, more explosive athlete, my 8-week Speed Kills program is designed specifically to develop acceleration, maximum velocity, and the physical qualities that support sprint performance. And if you’re not a competitive athlete but still want to sprint, jump, build muscle, and maintain your athleticism as you age, my 12-week Strength X Speed program combines sprinting, jumping, strength, and hypertrophy into one comprehensive training system. There’s something incredibly rewarding about being able to sprint fast, jump high, and remain athletic as you get older. Those qualities are worth training for. #soccertraining #soccerworkout #sprinter #sprinting #speedtraining
