@nikkigriffz: What does a computer science major look like for Post-AI students rn? im very curious! I don't think I'm better than others for being pre-ai at all. I just feel old 🧓🏻 There's a lot of condescending people in Tech and I'm not one of them. I think that anyone who is learning something should never be shamed for not knowing... that's how we learn! ♥️ You got this 🦾 #compscimajor #compsci #gamedeveloper
hi, i did my bachelors 2018-2022 and started my masters after working. basically in short, teachers have made the course work a lot more difficult with the expectation that students use AI within guidelines. for example, a group project (pre-AI) is now an individual project (post-AI).

I just use it as a learning tool - Claude babies me through the process until I understand/see it. it's like having a tutor.

So my doctoral advisor has repeatedly suggested that I incorporate chatgpt into my research, and said that the two students in my cohort who graduated several years ago did so via chatgpt integration in their respective projects. there is an immense amount of pressure to join them, but between the times I tried following his advice all leading to utter failures and the numerous other negative effects of LLM usage, I have stood firm in my conviction to progress my research the right way even if it takes longer and costs more money. I'm trying to graduate this semester finally, so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

It sucks, it can be a great tool for learning but I’ve noticed that using it erodes my ability to do a lot of basic things that are required as a computer scientist and dropping it isn’t an option because it’s expected you have some level of fluency in it if you’re studying CS now.

I have social anxiety so being able to type to a chatbot for tutoring is helpful

Some classes allow it, just have to include a small extra essay on how you used it and the pros and cons of using it. Many ppl think its just plug in a prompt and you're good. Ai is extremely wrong at time. You also need to present your project so you need to know the entire flow of logic.

My network administrator and I were just discussing that even just one year ago AI couldn’t do the problems that we were giving it with coding and we would do them by hand. Now a year later, it cannot only do them they can do them faster and more accurate than the weekend… Kind of scary.

Yep cloud DevOps major here, every part of my degree is including Claude, Copilot, and ChatGPT, Gemini, we are deploying AWS infrastructure, Amazon bedrock, building local models, shit is shifting so fast. My professor almost had a mental breakdown when he touched Claude, agentic workflows are just throwing the project and infrastructure work into overdrive
