A friend of mine sent me this interesting poll and I want to share it with you today. In August 2026 research by pollster John Utting and former Labor strategist Bruce Hawker. It surveyed 1,014 people intending to vote One Nation, Importantly, this is a survey of ON supporters, not a poll of Australians generally. Some of the most interesting findings are: 1. 91% said Australia was on the wrong track. Only 2% said it was heading in the right direction. For comparison, the ABC reported 62% of voters overall saying Australia was heading in the wrong direction at that time. 2. Among those saying Australia was on the wrong track, 39% nominated immigration as a reason, ahead of cost of living at 35%, politicians/government at 32%, and the economy at 26%. 3. 57% feared Australia’s culture and identity were changing too quickly, while 40% identified pressure on housing and infrastructure in relation to migration. This is useful because it shows concerns weren’t confined to a single argument about immigration numbers. 4. 67% said their household was worse off than three or four years earlier. ON supporters were concentrated through the middle household-income ranges rather than simply being Australia’s lowest-income voters. 5. 70% of current ON supporters had voted for another party in 2025 or hadn’t voted/couldn’t recall. Of the newer ON voters, 38% had come from the Coalition and 17% from Labor. 6. Support was quite committed: 52% rated themselves 10/10 certain to vote ON at the next election, with another 26% rating themselves 8 or 9/10. 7. 83% agreed that “people like me have no say in what the government does.” This is one of the clearest measures of political alienation in the survey. 8. 81% agreed Australia needed a strong leader prepared to break the rules. Separately, 62% agreed that it didn’t matter which party was in power. 9. 87% believed One Nation had clear, workable plans to deliver what it promised, although that consisted of 37% strongly agreeing and 50% somewhat agreeing. 50% believed ON could win government outright. 10. The demographic picture is also interesting. More than six in ten were men, more than three-quarters owned their homes, about six in ten were working, and trade qualifications were considerably more common than among voters generally. Support also strengthened with distance from capital cities. Interesting!
