The ban meant CNN could not fulfil its TV pool role, prompting ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC to suspend their coverage in solidarity, reported The Guardian. The networks said in a joint statement that the public has a "vital interest" in receiving "accurate, independent information". Trump defended the ban, saying the outlets were "very bad for national security" and that he had an obligation to prevent what he called "fake news".
