Being recognised by @The TV Foundation at the New Voice Awards for Best Social Creator is such a huge honour. Since I was a kid, I dreamed of being a content creator. I was in and out of hospital a lot growing up, and YouTube became one of the few things I could really do. I spent hours watching creators and imagining myself making videos one day. I was never particularly good academically, but creativity always made sense to me. Picking up a camera or trying a new editing tool just felt natural. I started making videos when I was 13, posting to nobody and hoping someone might eventually see them. After five years on YouTube I had just over 1,000 subscribers and I was incredibly proud of that, but I realised I probably was not reaching the right audience. So I stopped and started posting short form content on Instagram instead. A friend told me to download TikTok and, as they say, the rest is history. Throughout my social media journey I have always tried to make videos that entertain but also educate. I want people who might not see themselves in this industry to feel like they have a place in it. There is still a lot that needs to change to make the industry more accessible, both physically and metaphorically. I hope that as my career grows I can help open those doors even wider and create opportunities for creative people who just need someone to give them a chance. After all, that is how I got in… through an access scheme. Creating content and working in the TV industry have always been my two big goals, so being able to do both at the same time is incredibly special. I am still a long way from becoming an editor, but I cannot wait to take you along on that journey. And congratulations to all the other nominees and winners last night. It was amazing to see so many talented people representing the next generation of TV.
