He was born in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq, and was the eldest son of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad al-Husayni al-Shirazi. He grew up in a distinguished scholarly family known for its long tradition of religious leadership and learning. Due to political pressures in Iraq, he later moved with his family to Kuwait, where he continued his religious studies under prominent scholars, including his uncle, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Shirazi.
