I heard that the Game of Thrones stage play set during the Mad King era says that Lyanna and Rhaegar were lovers with Elia’s consent, lol. I was honestly laughing when they said this idea was supported by the author, George R. R. Martin. I was like, this is what we’re going with? The whole idea that Elia married into this family, met the Mad King, and then supported her husband taking Lyanna as his second wife so they could overthrow the Mad King is honestly wild. 😭 They’re really making it seem like this was somehow Elia’s fault instead of the fault of that stupid lover.

Hot take but while I hate Rhaegar and Lyanna, they're definitely not the cause of the war. The mad king ruined lives and burned hundreds of innocents other than the Starks, it was only a matter of time before war broke out for one reason or another . The realm was already a timed bomb and Lyanna and Rhaegar were the flame that caused the explosion.
